Gazoo Racing Malaysia Ushers in 2023 in a Big Way
Launch of three GR and two GR Sport vehicles
Themed ‘Awaken the Beasts’, UMW Toyota Motor and GAZOO Racing Malaysia today, for the first time, launched five new GAZOO Racing models comprising three GR and two GR Sport variants ̶ an all-new GR Supra, GR Corolla, GR86, Hilux GR Sport and Corolla Cross GR Sport.
“The introduction of these special GR and GR Sport models are a manifestation of Toyota’s aspiration to build ever better cars – cars that are designed and engineered with DNA derived from our experiences and achievements in global motorsports. These models are built to perform and to excite,” said UMW Toyota Motor, Deputy Chairman, Takashi Obata.

GAZOO Racing’s product offering in Malaysia began with the introduction of the GR Supra in 2019, followed up by the global release of the highly-anticipated GR Yaris in 2020. That same year, UMW Toyota Motor unveiled the Vios GR Sport in Malaysia which pays tribute to GR Vios Challenge racing cars.
GR Supra
The GR Supra is the epitome of a precise handling modern sports car with its optimum weight distribution and a highly rigid frame. Initially offered with an 8-speed automatic in 2019, the new GR Supra is now also available with a 6-speed manual transmission. Performance continues to be backed by a twin-scroll turbo-charged 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine delivering 388 PS and a maximum torque of 500Nm at 1800-5000 rpm. The GR Supra also offers two driving modes -Sports and Normal - which can be selected to tune the engine, transmission, and the damping, and is also fitted with newly-designed 19” inch alloy wheels.
Like its predecessor, the GR Supra is fully-trimmed with top of the range safety equipment in the form of the Toyota Supra Safety suite of Advance Driver Assistance System, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear-Cross Traffic Alert; Rear-end Collision Alert; Intelligent parking sensors with Automatic braking; and Toyota Premium Security & Solar Film. The GR Supra also comes with an 8.8” inch Multimedia System alongside a Head Up Display to show speed, infotainment and navigation data and using an 8” inch Colour TFT for its speedometer in addition to a 12-speaker JBL Premium Sound System.
GR Corolla
Also launched is another highly-anticipated model - the GR Corolla. The GR Corolla is powered by a 1.6L 3-cylinder turbo engine producing 300 PS and 370 Nm of torque for unparalleled performance. It is fitted to a 6-speed short-shift intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) with auto rev match and equipped with the GR-FOUR AWD system capable of splitting front and rear torque distribution to 60:40, 50:50, and 30:70 – features reminiscent of the GR Yaris.
The GR Corolla weighs 1,475 Kg, and is fitted with front MacPherson Struts and rear Double Wishbone with retuned springs, dampers and anti roll bars to help increase body rigidity and handling performance. It also comes with a forged carbon fiber roof, sporty rear spoiler and vented hood, and runs on Yokohama Advan tyres on 18” inch Alloy wheels.
Available in Precious Metal, Super White 2, Emotional Red 2 & Black, the GR Corolla comes with 12” inch Full Digital Multi-Information Display alongside with 9” inch Display Audio with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 6 speakers as standard. It is also fully equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 which is the finest and most refined version of Toyota Safety Sense. This includes Pre-Collision Warning, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control & Auto High Beam, ISOFIX ready and 7 Airbags throughout the vehicle.
GR86
The third model from the GR line-up is the GR86, a performance-tuned variant of a sports coupe that is today already synonymous with driving enthusiasts. A highly-enhanced version of the Toyota 86 which has the distinction of being named the best handling car of all time, the GR86 marks the birth of an extremely formidable machine powered by a newly-developed 2.4L Horizontally Opposed 4-cylinder Boxer Engine producing 237 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It claims a 0-100km/h sprint of 6.3 seconds, and is available with 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission with a short-throw shifter or as a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
Weighing in at 1291 Kg for the manual variant, the GR86 has the ideal front engine rear wheel drive configuration with a 50:50 weight distribution and fitted with a limited slip differential enabling the enthusiasts to fully put its power down.
The GR86 is also equipped with a full range of safety equipment: Pre-Crash System; Adaptive Cruise Control; Lane Departure Alert; Blind Spot Monitoring; Automatic High Beams; Adaptive Front Lighting System; and 7 airbags.
A freshly-designed interior meanwhile, greets drivers with an 8” inch touch screen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside 6 speakers; a 7” inch digital gauge cluster; combination leather and suede seats; and dual zone automatic climate control.
GR Sport Hilux
With success in the Dakar Rally, it is only befitting that Toyota bestows the GR emblem on the Hilux. The Hilux GR Sport features a new sports suspension system with monotube dampers, tuned to inspire greater driving confidence across all terrain.
It is also fitted with paddle shifters for a sportier drive and perfect for those who want maximum response and control – the first paddle shifter system to be implemented in the Hilux line-up.
The Hilux GR Sport’s presence is distinguished by a new front bumper and blacked out side mirrors; grille frame and overfenders finished in body colour for a sportier aesthetic; black sports bar; a new shark fin antenna; and the black and red body side and tailgate graphics which pays homage to Toyota GAZOO Racing’s rally cars. The GR Sport Hilux is also fitted with red brake calipers with the GR logo and newly-designed 18” inch alloy wheels.
The interior meanwhile, is detailed with red stitching throughout the cabin with redesigned front sports seats incorporating suede and leather inserts, GR-badged leather steering wheel with red stitching, the GR theme optitron meter with GR welcome animation, GR push start button, and aluminium sports pedals.
GR Sport Corolla Cross
The GAZOO Racing spirit cuts across all models and the Corolla Cross GR Sport will cater to SUV customers pursuing a more active lifestyle and seeking enhanced sporty driving feel and better handling as well as enhanced exterior and interior presence with GR Sport styling.
The exterior sports a 2-tone colour package: black exterior on the outer mirror, roof and rear spoiler for more sporty appeal while a more aggressively-styled front radiator grille has a black design for a sportier and wider impression. Exterior presence also comes from a set of 18” inch GR Sport designed alloy wheels; clear lens LED rear lamps; an exclusive rear bumper lower garnish design for a sportier personality; and 3 colour options - 2-tone Platinum White Pearl (Hero), 2-tone Red Mica Metallic and 2-tone Nebula Blue.
It also sports an all-black interior with red stitching among other features that clearly distinguishes it as a GR Sport. Features exclusive to it include a push start button with GR logo; a leather-wrapped with red stitching steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustments; leather with red stitching lever knob and boot; leather with red stitching seat covers with embossed GR logos on the front headrest; and a GR carpet mat design.
Rated at 139 PS and 172 Nm of torque, the GR Sport Corolla Cross is mated to a 7-Speed CVT with Sequential Shiftmatic transmission, electric power steering with a Sport ECU, specially-tuned stiffer front and rear suspension and a special performance bar added under the chassis.
The GR Sport Corolla Cross is also equipped with a full range of advanced safety and technology features that include: a Pre Crash System; Automatic High Beam; Dynamic Radar Cruise Control; Lane Departure Alert; Lane Tracing Assist; 3D Panoramic View Monitor; Blind Spot Monitor; Rear Cross Traffic Alert; Tyre Pressure Warning System; Driver Start Control; Vehicle Telematics System; Front & Rear Driving Video Recorder; and 7 SRS Airbags (Best In Class).
All five new models are available from 9 exclusive GR Garages nationwide, while the Hilux GR Sport and Corolla Cross GR Sport are available at GR Outlets nationwide.
