Toyota City, Japan, May 21, 2025―Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) unveiled its new RAV4 to the world on May 21, with plans to launch the model in Japan before the end of FY2025.
The RAV4 debuted in 1994 as a pioneer in crossover SUVs, combining on- and off-road capabilities. Over five generations, it has adapted to evolving lifestyles and gained global popularity.
The fifth-generation RAV4, launched in 2019, built on its SUV roots with a new TNGA platform, offering improved driving performance, stability, and utility.
Now in its sixth generation, the RAV4 embraces the concept "Life is an Adventure," featuring a new hybrid system for better acceleration and Toyota’s Arene software platform for enhanced safety and intelligent functionality. Designed for both urban and outdoor life, it aims to be a versatile companion.
Toyota plans to launch the new RAV4 in over 180 countries and regions.
VEHICLE DETAILS
1. A car that feels like it can go anywhere thanks to a powertrain that leads the way in electrification:
i- PHEV
The new RAV4 PHEV offers an extended BEV driving range of 150 km (up from 95 km), thanks to a larger battery and efficient silicon carbide semiconductors on the front axle. With a 12% increase in motor output and advanced hybrid and braking systems, it delivers enhanced off-road performance. It also supports vehicle-to-home (V2H) power supply and now includes DC fast charging, reaching 80% in about 30 minutes.
ii- HEV
Improved transaxle, power control unit, and battery boost motor output. The result is smoother acceleration, quicker starts, and more responsive, direct driving.
2. Design That Embodies "RAV4-ness"
Exterior
The new RAV4’s design emphasizes three key elements: bold “Big Foot” tires, a “Life-up” off-road-ready stance, and practical “Utility” with user-friendly cargo space—capturing the adventurous spirit of the RAV4.
Interior
The interior blends SUV functionality with comfort and entertainment. Lowering the instrument panel by 40 mm improves visibility and driving ease. Digital features are intuitively placed for minimal eye movement, with modern storage and connectivity.
Interior Concept: Island Architecture
Functions like displays and controls are grouped like islands, enhancing balance and usability. A horizontal instrument panel supports stability and keeps key elements within easy reach.
Enhanced Features:
- Console: Includes fast-charging pads, USB ports, and a reversible armrest/tray.
- Gearshift Panel: Combines essential controls with a clean, shift-by-wire design and elegant piano black finish.
- Luggage Space: Trunk capacity increased from 733L to 749L, with flatter folding rear seats for easier long-item storage.
3. Three Styles to Meet Diverse Customer Needs**
Core:
A refined urban look with a bold hammerhead design, solid form, and integrated bumper and grille for a high-tech, powerful feel.
ADVENTURE:
Built for rugged exploration, featuring a wider tread, distinctive wheel arches, and a raised hammerhead nose for an off-road-ready appearance.
GR SPORT:
Inspired by motorsports, this sporty model combines functional beauty with enhanced suspension, body rigidity, and handling. It includes the GR-specific Functional MATRIX Grille, front/rear spoilers, wider tread (+20 mm), tuned EPS, and lightweight wheels for confident, dynamic driving.
4. A Smarter RAV4 Powered by Intelligent Technologies
The new RAV4 is the first Toyota to use the Arene software platform, advancing the development of software-defined vehicles (SDVs). Arene supports Toyota’s vision of safer, more personalized mobility, enabling cutting-edge features that enhance both safety and user experience.
New Multimedia System
Toyota’s next-gen system offers a customizable home screen and faster, more accurate voice recognition for a smoother user experience.
Toyota Safety Sense – Enhanced
The latest Toyota Safety Sense adds and improves features for safer, more confident driving.
Improved: Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS) now guides the car to a safe roadside stop if the driver becomes incapacitated.
New: Sudden Acceleration Suppression prevents unintended acceleration, now standard as part of Plus Support.
With Arene, Toyota will continue to boost safety and convenience through ongoing software updates.
