INGOLSTADT/SAN JOSÉ CHIAPA, Sept. 2, 2024 - The new Audi Q5, a longstanding favorite in Europe, is now more modern and dynamic. Built on the PPC platform, it features efficient engines with MHEV plus technology, advanced infotainment, and customizable digital lights. The lineup includes the sporty SQ5, with plug-in hybrids coming soon.
Audi is launching the third generation of its successful Q5 SUV, continuing its dominance in the premium midsize segment since 2008. Built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) like the Audi A5, the Q5 offers high technical standards and flexibility for future models. It features a sporty design, powerful engines with MHEV plus technology, and future plug-in hybrids, supporting Audi's premium mobility goals. Manufactured in Mexico, the new Q5 marks the start of Audi's renewal of its SUV portfolio with both combustion and electrified variants.
PRACTICAL: SPACE CONCEPT AND VARIABLITY
The new Audi Q5 offers enhanced key features, creating a spacious and comfortable interior with ample head and legroom.
A key feature of the Audi Q5 is the fully adjustable rear seat, which can be moved or tilted to increase trunk space or enhance passenger comfort. It comfortably seats three, and with the seats folded down, cargo capacity expands to 1,473 liters. The luggage cover can be stored under the floor for added space.
Additional practical features include a larger storage compartment under the center armrest, multiple small storage areas for everyday items, and an inductive, cooled wireless phone charger with 15 watts of power. The Q5 also offers two USB-C ports in the front and two in the rear, with optional higher charging capacities—up to 60 watts in the front and 100 watts in the rear, capable of powering larger devices like laptops.
PURISM AND DYNAMISM: THE EXTERIOR DESIGN
The third-generation Audi Q5 SUV boasts a sportier look with a powerful silhouette and dynamic proportions. The high shoulder line connects the front and rear lights, giving the vehicle a longer appearance. The confident front features a high Singleframe grille with vertical air curtains and sharply sculpted headlights. A large air intake adds to the wide stance. The S line exterior highlights sporty body components, while the S model features distinctive chrome accents.
At the rear, the Q5 has a sleek design with minimal lines and a three-dimensional light strip across the width of the vehicle. The rear bumper integrates a diffuser, with tailpipe designs varying by engine type: double square tailpipes for diesel engines, rectangular for petrol engines, and iconic twin round tailpipes for the S model.
THREE CONFORMATION CHARACTERISTICS AND ELEVEN COLORS
The new Audi Q5 is available in three versions: basic, advanced exterior, and S line exterior, with the S model featuring a unique design. The S line and S models have larger front air intakes and a sportier rear diffuser.
The Q5 comes in eleven colors: Arkona White, Glacier White, Mythos Black, Floret Silver, Navarra Blue, Grenadine Red, District Green, Tambora Gray, Ultra Blue (exclusive to S models), Daytona Grey pearl effect (exclusive to S models), and Sakhir Gold (exclusive to S models). Alloy wheels range from 17 to 21 inches, with the S line and S models standard on 19-inch wheels and optional 21-inch forged or tricolor wheels.
CLEAN LINES AND A WELCOMING AMBIENCE: THE INTERIOR DESIGN
The interior of the new Audi Q5 SUV is designed with four key features: human-centric layout, visual clarity, the "Digital Stage," and "Material Driven Design."
1. Human-Centric: The design is tailored to user needs with a clear, horizontal layout for the control panel, creating a visually organized space.
2. Visual Clarity: Functional and aesthetic elements are seamlessly integrated, with high-quality materials extending across the control panel and rising at door transitions.
3. Digital Stage: Features the Audi MMI displays, including a 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and a 14.5-inch MMI touch display. An optional 10.9-inch MMI Passenger Display offers Dynamic Privacy mode for undisturbed use.
4. Material Driven Design: Combines digital elements with soft wrap elements and fabric panels for a cozy atmosphere. Materials like Kaskade textile and Dinamica are sustainable, made from recycled materials, and offer customization options.
DYNAMIC INTERACTION LIGHT
The Audi Q5 SUV's interior design is accentuated by ambient lighting. Contour lights on the dashboard and doors enhance the sense of width, while indirect lighting below the Curved Audi MMI Panorama Display creates a floating effect. High-quality materials are highlighted, and the dynamic interaction light (IAL) spans the interior as an LED strip. This IAL provides visual cues such as a welcome function and indicates vehicle status. It also supports safety with dynamic indicators that complement the Virtual Cockpit display, included in the ambient lighting package pro.
AERODYNAMICS AND AEROACOUSTICS
The new Audi Q5 SUV* features enhanced aerodynamics and aeroacoustics. Key aerodynamic improvements include a clad underbody, air curtains to reduce wheel turbulence, and air deflectors to guide airflow around the front wheels. The extensive underbody cover and rear Aero panels help manage airflow, while the deep roof spoiler and optimized exterior mirrors improve efficiency. For aeroacoustics, the standard acoustic glazing on the windshield and optional acoustic glazing on the front side windows enhance driving comfort.
IMPRESSIVE BY DAY AND NIGHT: THE LIGHTING DESIGN
The new Audi Q5 SUV advances lighting technology with its three-dimensional rear lights, featuring second-generation digital OLED technology. These lights include a projection light that enhances safety by enlarging the brake light area and integrates into the Coming Home and Leaving Home scenes. The OLED panels create dynamic images and can communicate with the vehicle’s surroundings for improved safety.
At the front, the active digital light signature uses fifteen segments to maintain consistent light intensity, enhancing visibility and aesthetic appeal. The Q5 also offers up to eight customizable light signatures for personalization.
ULTRA-MODERN COMBUSTION ENGINES WITH MHEV PLUS
The new Audi Q5 SUV family is built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) and features MHEV plus technology. This 48-volt system enhances performance, reduces CO2 emissions, and allows for limited electric maneuvering and parking. It also powers an electrically driven air conditioning compressor, maintaining comfort even when the engine is off.
The MHEV plus system uses a lithium-ion battery with a 1.7 kWh capacity and a belt starter generator for engine starts and battery power. The new powertrain generator aids in electric driving and fuel efficiency, with recuperation during deceleration. Future models will include plug-in hybrids with larger batteries and external charging options.
THREE ENGINE VERSIONS AT MARKET LAUNCH
In Europe, the Audi Q5 SUV will launch with three engine options, all featuring MHEV plus technology, which provides up to 18 kW (24 PS) of additional power. All models come with a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission.
1. 2.0 TFSI: 150 kW (204 PS), 340 Nm torque, front-wheel drive with optional quattro all-wheel drive. Fuel consumption: 7.3–6.4 l/100 km (32.2–36.8 mpg), CO2 emissions: 165–146 g/km (265.5–235.0 g/mi).
2. 2.0 TDI: 150 kW (204 PS), 400 Nm torque, only available with quattro all-wheel drive. Fuel consumption: 6.6–5.9 l/100 km (35.6–39.9 mpg), CO2 emissions: 174–154 g/km (280.0–247.8 g/mi).
3. SQ5: 3.0 V6 TFSI, 270 kW (367 PS), 550 Nm torque. Fuel consumption: 8.6–8.0 l/100 km (27.4–29.4 mpg), CO2 emissions: 196–182 g/km (315.4–292.9 g/mi).
AGILE HANDLING AND COMFORT
The new Audi Q5 SUV offers brand-typical driving characteristics with improved comfort due to its optimized suspension and steering. It comes with dynamically tuned steel suspension as standard, or a sports suspension on the SQ5*. The steel suspension features Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) for a firmer ride, reducing high-frequency impacts while maintaining damping at lower frequencies. Optional adaptive air suspension, adjustable via Audi drive select, provides a broader range between comfort and sport modes. Enhanced progressive steering is standard across the Q5 lineup.
THE LATEST GENERATION OF DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS
The new Audi Q5 models come with standard driver assistance systems including rear parking aid with distance display, cruise control, lane departure warning, efficiency assistant, and attention and drowsiness assistant.
Optional assistance packages offer additional features such as the Adaptive Driving Assistant plus, which enhances traffic sign recognition and assists with acceleration, speed, distance, and lane guidance. Active Front Assist includes Front Emergency Brake Assist, Evasion Assist, Turn Assist, and Front Cross Traffic Assist. Other available systems include traffic sign-based cruise control, Park Assist plus, and Rear Turn Assist.
DISPLAY AND OPERATION CONCEPT
The Audi Q5 series features a fully networked digital interior with the Audi MMI panoramic display and the 10.9-inch MMI passenger display. The Digital Stage includes Dynamic Privacy mode, which hides the display's contents from the driver to prevent distractions, showing only a black screen to them while allowing the front passenger to view the content.
The Audi assistant, a learning voice assistant with AI support, controls various vehicle functions and is represented by an avatar in the central touch display and head-up display. An icon in the instrument display indicates the status of the Audi assistant.
SMART INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM
The Audi Q5 SUV features an infotainment system running on Android Automotive OS, with apps like YouTube available directly through the MMI store, eliminating the need for a smartphone.
The Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System, powered by a highly efficient amplifier, delivers 685 watts through 16 speakers. It uses "Symphoria" technology from the Fraunhofer Institute to create a 3D surround sound experience with enhanced width, depth, and height. The system includes Vehicle Noise Compensation (VNC) to adjust for interior noise, and additional features can be added via Functions on Demand.
INDIVIDUALLY CONFIGUREABLE: THE HEAD-UP DISPLAY
The Audi Q5 offers an optional configurable Head-Up Display (HUD) that provides clear information such as speed, navigation instructions, and media data. The HUD allows drivers to control vehicle and infotainment functions using steering wheel buttons, including selecting recent destinations and answering calls directly. It also lets drivers control media, like radio stations or podcasts, without diverting attention from the road.
