The New BMW iX
29.01.2025 - As a vanguard in the field of electric mobility, the BMW iX has established a unique combination of progressive luxury and locally emission-free driving pleasure.The new edition of the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) features an increase in driving performance combined with significantly extended range. Specific exterior and interior design modifications emphasise the sporty character of the new BMW iX.
The BMW iX leads in electric mobility, combining luxury with emission-free driving. The new edition enhances performance and extends range, reaching up to 701 km (435 miles) WLTP. This reflects BMW EfficientDynamics innovations, with updated eDrive technology and sportier design elements.
Improved performance electronics, wheel bearings, and tyres boost efficiency, reducing WLTP test cycle consumption by over 8%. The BMW iX xDrive60 gains approximately 60 km (37 miles) in range.
New model names highlight increased power. From spring 2025, the BMW iX will be available as xDrive45, xDrive60, and M70 xDrive, with power consumption ranging from 21.8 to 23.5 kWh/100 km. Key markets include the USA, UK, and Germany. Production continues at BMW’s Dingolfing plant, the company's hub for electric drive systems and luxury models.
EXTERIOR: STRIKING PRESENCE, M SPORT PACKAGE AS A NEW OPTION
The new BMW iX features a bold, monolithic design with clean lines and classic SAV proportions. Its striking front includes a redesigned BMW kidney grille with a delicate frame and a pattern of vertical and diagonal lines. The BMW Iconic Glow kidney grille, standard on the iX M70 xDrive, is now an option for other models.
Redesigned headlights incorporate vertical daytime running lights and turn indicators. Standard adaptive LED headlights feature cornering lights and new city lights, mirroring the kidney grille’s diagonal design.
Seamless front and rear aprons, with more body-colored surfaces, create a sporty, elegant look. The optional M Sport package enhances the dynamic styling with bold lines, large air intakes, and vertical rear reflectors. The M Sport package Pro adds dark M Shadow Line lights.
The top-tier iX M70 xDrive includes M Sport features, an exclusive kidney grille with an M logo, black mirror caps, and 22-inch M light-alloy wheels.
New color options include Arctic Race Blue, Dune Grey, Carbon Black, Frozen Deep Grey, Frozen Pure Grey, Tanzanite Blue, and Space Silver (available from summer 2025). The BMW Individual Exterior Line Titanium Bronze is also available for the iX xDrive45 and iX xDrive60.
PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT FOR ALL MODEL VARIANTS.
All variants of the new BMW iX feature electric all-wheel drive with enhanced motors and power electronics for increased performance.
The BMW iX xDrive45 now delivers 300 kW/408 hp, gaining 60 kW/82 hp, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.1 seconds—1.0 second faster. The iX xDrive60 boosts output by 15 kW/21 hp to 400 kW/544 hp, reaching 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. Both have a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph).
The high-performance BMW iX M70 xDrive delivers up to 485 kW/659 hp in My Mode Sport, with a max torque of 1,100 Nm (811 ft-lb) using Launch Control. It accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds (or 3.5 seconds using the "1-foot rollout" method) and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
UNIQUE IN THIS SEGMENT: A RANGE OF UP TO 701 KILOMETRES (435 MILES)
New battery cell technology boosts the BMW iX xDrive45’s battery capacity by 30% to 94.8 kWh. The iX xDrive60 and iX M70 xDrive offer 109.1 kWh and 108.9 kWh, respectively.
A new inverter optimizes energy transfer, enhancing efficiency across all models. Combined with a higher battery capacity in the iX xDrive45 and other efficiency improvements, range increases by up to 40%, depending on the model. The iX xDrive60 now achieves a WLTP range of 563–701 km (350–435 miles), while the iX xDrive45 reaches 490–602 km (305–374 miles), and the iX M70 xDrive offers 521–600 km (324–373 miles).
Adaptive recuperation improves efficiency, while the MAX RANGE function can extend the remaining range by up to 25% before the next charge.
EVEN MOREEFFICIENCY WHEN CHARGING THE HIGH-VOLTAGE BATTERY.
The new BMW iX xDrive45 now supports 175 kW DC fast charging, while the iX xDrive60 and iX M70 xDrive reach 195 kW. Optimized battery pre-conditioning and heat pump integration improve charging efficiency. The charging socket now includes a release button.
AC charging is available at up to 22 kW, with support for Plug & Charge Multi Contract and Connected Home Charging for solar- and cost-optimized charging. The new BMW Wallbox Plus is also available.
The iX offers enhanced route planning via the My BMW App, allowing users to set destinations, stopovers, and charging preferences. BMW Maps provides real-time charging station availability, estimated costs, and nearby amenities.
OPTIMISED CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION SET-UP, NEW M LIGHT-ALLOY WHEELS
The new BMW iX features a chassis and suspension setup optimized for the enhanced drive system and improved battery technology, with a hydraulic rear axle support bearing for a balance of sporty dynamics and ride comfort. Weight- and friction-optimized wheel bearings and low-rolling-resistance tires with the highest efficiency label A+ also boost efficiency.
The suspension includes a double-wishbone front axle, five-link rear axle, electric steering with Servotronic, and, on the iX M70 xDrive, adaptive two-axle ride control, M-specific tuning, Integral Active Steering, and sports brakes. All models come with HDC (Hill Descent Control) and optional DSC deactivation.
New 21- and 22-inch M light-alloy wheels are available as part of the M Sport packages, with a unique 23-inch wheel option. The larger wheels feature tires with integrated foam absorbers for better noise insulation.
WIDE VARIETY OF SYSTEMS AUTOMATED DRIVING AND PARKING
The new BMW iX offers advanced driver assistance systems, including standard Driving Assistant Plus with Active Cruise Control (up to 180 km/h), front collision warning with brake intervention, and Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant and Camera.
The optional Highway Assistant (Level 2+) can handle steering on dual carriageways at speeds up to 130 km/h, with an Active Lane Change Assistant activated by eye movement. The optional Parking Assistant Professional allows parking and maneuvering via smartphone.
INTERIOR: PROGRESSIVE LUXURY, REFINIED SPORTINESS
The BMW iX's interior offers a spacious, luxurious atmosphere with the sporty touch of the M Sport package. It features M multifunction seats with enhanced support, M leather steering wheel, two-tone instrument panel, Dark Silver trim, anthracite headlining, M pedals, and high-gloss black center console.
Standard equipment includes an alarm system, adaptive LED headlights, Comfort Access, heated seats, heated steering wheel, Driving Assistant Plus, BMW Live Cockpit Professional, and Harman Kardon Surround Sound. The BMW iX M70 xDrive adds Integral Active Steering, adaptive suspension, BMW Iconic Glow grille, M Sport package Pro, and solar control glazing.
Optional features include the Sky Lounge panoramic roof, Bowers & Wilkins sound system, Titanium Bronze trim, and up to 22 kW DC charging.
BMW IDRIVE WITH STATE-OF-THE-ART DIGITAL SERVICES
Based on the BMW Operating System 8.5, BMW iDrive not only offers intuitive operation using the touch function on the BMW Curved Display and voice control with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, but also the use of digital services such as video streaming and in-car gaming.
5G mobile radio aerials deliver optimised connectivity. The BMW ID and the My BMW App provide a personalised user experience. In addition, the BMW Digital Key allows for particularly simple and convenient setup using the new Setup Card.
