Description
1981 Porsche 924 Carrera GT RHD
REMARKS:
Imported New, Immaculate Condition, Only 75 Right Hand Drive Units Produced. Developed as a Homologation model for Group 4 Racing in LeMans. Very Rare
The 924 Carrera GT was developed as a homologation special for Porsche in competition racing namely LeMans. From a standard 924 Turbo, the power was bumped up from 170hp to 210hp, the weight dropped to 1180kg, wider body arches and wheels were fitted, a large air intake on the hood plus improved systems cooling added to the sharpened nature of this model.
By the time the 924 Carrera GT went racing, its 911 counterpart was already hitting 360kph on the straights. Although only managing a 280kph top speed, the 924 Carrera GT finished sixth overall in LeMans 1980, thanks to the reliability and its advanced design. Certainly an amazing feat first time round.
This particular specimen is a very mint example of the only 75 right hand drive units ever produced. Code named 938, this car was imported new into the country and had 4 owners since. Bodywork is straight and rust free and the mechanical care is up to date. The original seats are still in very good nick and the dash instruments are intact inclusive of the trademark tilt tacho. Having said that the cost of running even a 924 Carrera GT is relatively low as with other models like the 911.
Racing Specials are becoming very sought after and at this price, the entry level is not exorbitant.
